I am a 14 year old girl and I am interested in Hip Hop dance lessons.We found a place that does them and we're gonna check it out on Monday afternoon.I am not overweight but I am not in tip top shape either.I am average weight.l can do a ton of sit ups, a lot of crunches, and some push ups.l also am taking a spinning class.Is there anything like a routine l should do so I am in shape for the lessons? This is also my first time doing any sort of dance class.

hey im glad u want to take it.
hip hop is a more modern style of dance. it moves faster to. depending on where u take it is what youll be doing in that class. in my class we breakdance, use floor techniques, jumps, falls, & move really fast so
Breakdance - arm strength balance
floor depends on what ur doing
jumps- when u jump go through the ball of ur foot ( raise the heel then the ball then leave the ground) land like this to just do it opposite (ball to heel) so u dont make a big thud when u land.
falls- please dont try to practice these until u know how to do them because u can really hurt yourself if ur not using the right technique
for moving fast- get yourself in shape
Hip-Hop = 1st arm strength (pushups) 2nd abs (sit ups) 3rd legs(try going on the balls of ur feet & get in a position crouched down with ur hips over ur ankles & ur knees cant touch the ground then pulse up & down 20 times)
P.S. youll be sore for a while so work those muscles

If u have never taken a class, l would suggest observing one before u take one. This way u will know exactly what to expect in ur class. Also, there r some DVDs available that offer hip hop basics. Sometimes fitness centers offer hip hop aerobics, that incorporate basic hip hop dance steps. Utube also offers hip hop dance class video clips!
l think it is wonderful u r signing up for classes & l am sure u will do just great!
